Appalachian Studies is an interdisciplinary program that offers courses from the social sciences, humanities, art, environmental studies, social work, and health sciences. The program offers an undergraduate minor and a certificate in Appalachian Studies. Students are encouraged to select a group of courses tailored to their personal and academic goals in consultation with the Interdisciplinary Studies Director. Minor in Appalachian Studies (18 hours) APP 200 plus 15 hours of approved Appalachian Studies electives Certificate in Appalachian Studies* (12 hours) APP 200 plus 9 hours of approved Appalachian Studies electives Students from all majors are welcomed and encouraged to tailor their degree program to integrate the minor or certificate program. With the approval of the Interdisciplinary Studies Director, students may also pursue independent studies courses or select relevant special topics from other departments.
